Get started with one Script

This quickstart takes one real need and turns it into a first usable Script. Keep the scope small enough to finish in one sitting.

Before you begin

Choose a moment likely to happen in the next seven days. For example:

• a colleague asks how your weekend was;
• an interviewer asks you to introduce yourself;
• you need to explain a technical issue to a customer;
• you want to record a one-minute reflection;
• you want to narrate your commute in English.

Avoid broad goals such as “speak English fluently.” A Script needs a visible moment in which language has a job to do.

Step 1: Name the real need

Complete this sentence:

I need this Script because I want to ______ when ______ happens.

Example:

I need this Script because I want to respond naturally when someone asks why I am changing careers.

Step 2: Choose the trigger

A trigger tells you when the Script should become available in your mind.

Good triggers are concrete:

• “Tell me about yourself.”
• The customer says the issue is still not fixed.
• I start the car in the morning.
• I notice myself analysing too many directions again.

Step 3: Write the shortest useful version

Write three to eight lines. Use words you can imagine saying, not language chosen only because it looks advanced.

I have worked in front-end development for several years.
What I enjoy most is understanding a real user problem and making the solution clear.
Now I want to bring that technical background into a more international, customer-facing role.

This is enough for a first version. You can add detail after speaking it.

Step 4: Read it aloud twice

On the first reading, notice pronunciation and rhythm. On the second, look away from the page whenever you can.

Mark only the places where you:

• stop unexpectedly;
• cannot remember the next idea;
• use a phrase that does not sound like you;
• need an expression you do not yet have.

These are useful gaps, not failures.

Step 5: Keep three expressions

Choose no more than three pieces of language worth carrying into other situations.

From the example above:

• What I enjoy most is...
• bring my background into...
• a customer-facing role

Save each expression with the full sentence in which you would use it.

Step 6: Give it one real test

Use the Script in a conversation, voice recording, mock interview or camera practice. Afterward, answer:

1. What came out naturally?
2. Where did I leave the Script?
3. What did I want to say but could not?
4. What should be shorter or more specific?

Update the Script once. Do not endlessly polish before testing.

Done means usable

Your first Script is complete when you can use it to move through the scene more clearly than before. It does not need to sound perfect, native or final.
